Wilma Shaw

Working with Wilma has been one of the best things I have done for both myself and my pets. She is deeply wise, incredibly knowledgeable, and brings a level of insight that is rare. She does not just hand out advice, she teaches you how to think, how to ask better questions, and how to truly advocate for yourself and your pet. That has been life changing for me, and it has quite literally helped save my little dog’s life. She looks deeper, at the whole picture and the root cause, instead of just masking symptoms. I am so grateful for her and would recommend her wholeheartedly.

I came away from my first consultation with Wilma relieved and happy - relieved because I could sense I had found an important resource for my cat’s care that would be able to coordinate with and supplement my vet’s care and happy because I sensed that I could trust Wilma’s high level of knowledge, as well as her warmth, kindness and love of animals.

I’m pretty new to cat care and Wilma worked with me at my current level. She gave me practical suggestions that I could follow and that directly answered the questions that led me to her.

I was surprised how much animal functional medicine parallels that of humans. It’s a wonderful resource for pet owners! And following what I’ve experienced with the human version, Wilma asked for my cat’s medical records prior to my session so she came into the session already knowledgeable about my cat. And after the session I received a very thorough written review of everything we discussed, along with resources I would need to follow through.

In this world where so often the bottom line takes top priority, I was impressed that Wilma offers an economical group option where pet owners can learn from each other and ask questions. I have benefitted from this group and now that my cat’s medical condition has evolved, I’ve been able to schedule another private consultation for more individual guidance.

Through Wilma, I met veterinarian Dr. Ruth Roberts, pioneer in veterinary integrative and holistic medicine, and am becoming exposed to more information in this fascinating and inspiring field and from these dedicated professionals.

Based on the approach to my own personal health and wellness, when my 12 yr old GSD, Thor, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Kidney Disease, I knew I had to follow the same principles for his health. Being a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner myself, like Wilma Shaw, I was very happy to find she also works with animals. I knew this would be a perfect fit for Thor. She has helped me go after his Kidney disease related digestive issues, along with the best homemade food diet to support his system. Not only has she recommended a personalized food recipe for him, but she has also walked me thru each symptom he experiences, recommending supportive supplements to ease his discomfort. She also advises what testing to request at my local Veterinary office, how often to get testing, and her thoughts on my Vet's recommendations. It's been about 8 months since his kidney diagnosis, and he is holding steady. I have no doubt if I had not reached out to Wilma, he would be worse at this point.
Not only does she help me with Thor, but she also advises me with my other GSD, Luke, who is 6 years old. Because of her inputs, I have hopes Luke will live a long healthy life.
